Plan the full cost
Domain registration, renewal and transfer prices.
Compare the first year with the cost of keeping your name. Use the registration column for a new domain, the renewal column for another year, or the transfer column when moving an existing registration to us. A transfer is not an extra step you need to buy with a new registration.
| Domain ending | Register: first year | Renew: one year | Transfer fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| .ug | UGX 137,000 | UGX 137,000 | UGX 137,000 |
| .co.ug | UGX 137,000 | UGX 137,000 | UGX 137,000 |
| .com | UGX 69,000 | UGX 69,000 | UGX 69,000 |
| .org | UGX 73,000 | UGX 90,000 | UGX 73,000 |
| .net | UGX 73,000 | UGX 94,000 | UGX 73,000 |
Registration and renewal prices can differ. Budget for hosting, email and any optional services separately; future renewal prices may change. Check availability, the selected period, applicable taxes and the final total before payment. Transfer eligibility and any change to the expiry date depend on the extension and current registrar.
Domain names in Uganda
.ug or .co.ug: which fits your business?
.ug is Uganda’s country-code domain. Yourbusiness.ug gives you a shorter address; yourbusiness.co.ug adds the .co level under .ug. They are separate registrations: search both full names because registering one does not reserve the other.
Choose a name customers can say, spell and type. Compare its registration and renewal cost above. If you serve customers beyond Uganda, you can also compare an available .com.
If you choose both .ug and .co.ug, budget for two renewals and decide which address customers should use. Registering both does not automatically connect them to the same website or email service.
The .UG Registry lists both .ug and .co.ug. Ask us to check any eligibility or documentation requirements for your chosen name before ordering.

- 01
Search the exact name
Check spelling and the full ending. A search result is an availability check, not a reservation; registration must complete successfully.
- 02
Use the right registrant
Enter the person or organisation that should hold the registration. If someone orders on your behalf, agree whose details and account will control it.
- 03
Review and confirm
Check the registration period, registrant details, optional services and final total. After ordering, check your account for the domain’s status and renewal date.
Keep control of your name
Register for your business. Keep access in your hands.
A domain registration gives its registrant the right to use the name for a limited term, subject to the applicable agreement. It needs renewal; it is not a one-time purchase that lasts forever.
Before a developer hands over your website, ask for the domain provider, registrant details, expiry date and the account used to manage DNS. Give the developer the access needed for the work while keeping registration, billing and account recovery under your business’s control.
- 01
Keep contact details current
Use an email address you monitor for renewal and verification messages. Keep a recovery address that remains accessible if this domain’s email stops working.
- 02
Protect account access
Use a unique password and enable two-factor authentication where available. Agree who in your organisation can approve renewals, DNS changes and transfers.
- 03
Keep a renewal record
Record the domain, provider, account owner and expiry date. Check renewal invoices in your client account and confirm that a paid renewal has completed.
Website and email setup
One domain. The services your business needs.
Registering a domain does not create a website or mailbox. DNS records connect the name to the services you choose, and those services can use different providers.
Connect to web hosting, business email hosting or Google Workspace. Follow our business email setup guide to connect mail while preserving your website records.
- 01
Connect the website
Your website provider supplies the DNS records to add, usually A, AAAA or CNAME records. Make changes wherever your domain’s authoritative DNS is managed.
- 02
Connect business email
MX records route incoming email. Your email provider also supplies SPF, DKIM and DMARC guidance to help authenticate messages. Use the values for your actual service.
- 03
Preserve existing services
Before changing nameservers, copy and review the existing DNS records, including website, mail and verification records. After the change, test your website with and without www, and send and receive email. Cached records can take time to update.
Renewal and expiry
Renew before the name expires.
Check both your invoice due date and domain expiry date. A renewal invoice or an enabled renewal setting does not by itself confirm that payment and registry renewal have succeeded.
If your domain has expired, contact us with the full domain name promptly. Website and email service may be interrupted. Recovery options, deadlines and additional charges depend on the extension and its current status.
- 01
Compare the renewal price
The table separates today’s registration and renewal prices. First-year pricing does not fix future renewals; review the price and period on your renewal invoice.
- 02
Renew in good time
Allow time to resolve payment or account issues before expiry. Keep reminders and contact details current rather than relying on a last-day payment.
- 03
Check the new expiry date
After renewal is processed, verify the updated expiry date in your account. Ask for help if a paid renewal still shows the old date.
Domain registration questions
Before you register a .ug or .co.ug domain.
How much does a .ug or .co.ug domain cost?
The live table above shows registration, renewal and transfer prices in the displayed currency. Search your full name to check availability, then review the period, applicable taxes and total in checkout. Website hosting and email are separate services.
Is .co.ug the same as .co?
No. .co.ug is a domain ending within Uganda’s .ug namespace. .co is a separate country-code domain. Search and order the exact ending you want.
Do I need hosting to register a domain?
No. You can register an available name before your website is ready, then connect website or email services later. Keep renewing the registration even while you are not using it.
Will a .ug domain make my website rank first?
No domain ending guarantees a ranking. A country-code domain helps signal a country audience, but useful content, accessible pages and other search signals still matter. Choose a name that suits your customers and brand. Google explains country targeting.
How quickly will my new domain work?
Registration must complete first, and the relevant DNS records and services must be configured. Existing DNS caches can affect when changes appear. Check the order status and contact us if you need a launch date confirmed.
Will transferring my domain move my website and email?
No. Plan website files, databases and mailbox migration separately. Confirm who will continue providing DNS and keep the existing services active until the new setup is tested.
Does a transfer always add another year?
Do not assume it does. The result depends on the extension, registry rules and domain status. We will check the applicable term and cost for your domain before you transfer.
Can I recover an expired .ug domain?
Contact us promptly so we can check its current registry status and available recovery process. Do not assume a fixed grace period or guaranteed recovery. Renewal, restoration and availability rules vary by extension.
