What is cPanel and Why is it Important?

cPanel is a control panel for managing the features enabled on a hosting account. The provider chooses the available tools and resource limits, so two cPanel accounts can have different capabilities.

What you may find in cPanel

  • Website tools: file management, databases, domains and supported application settings.
  • Email tools: mailboxes, forwarding, webmail and connection settings.
  • DNS tools: zone editing when enabled. Changes affect the live domain only if those servers are authoritative for it.
  • Security and certificates: the controls enabled for the account, including certificate status.
  • Backups: download or restore features available under the hosting configuration.

These are possible features, not a list of inclusions for every plan. Bulamu Mail accounts are configured for email; they do not include the website and database features of a shared web hosting plan. SSH or SFTP access, application installers and automatic backups must be confirmed separately.

Connect a company mailbox to an app

In cPanel, open Email Accounts, find the mailbox and choose Connect Devices. Use the secure SSL/TLS hostnames and ports shown for that mailbox, with the full email address as the username. Do not reuse the main hosting-account password.

IMAP is normally suitable when several devices need to see the same messages. Check an existing POP account's settings before changing it: some messages may exist only on one computer. See cPanel's mail-client instructions.

Understand quotas before adding users

A mailbox's quota and the whole account's storage limit are separate controls. A mailbox marked “unlimited” within cPanel does not create unlimited physical storage; the parent account limits still apply. Check actual usage and leave room for new mail before adding accounts or importing archives. Current Bulamu Mail plans state the mailbox allowance and total storage pool.

Protect access and prepare for recovery

Use a unique password, enable the available account-security controls and give access only to authorised people. Download appropriate backups and keep an independent copy. The ability to create a backup does not mean a scheduled backup service is included; a full account restore may need the provider. Refer to cPanel's backup documentation.

If a tool is absent, check the selected plan or ask support before assuming it is broken. Send the name of the tool and the error, without sending passwords.
